Industry News | Sept. 7, 2017, 11:57 a.m.
Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with Marand, is hosting an event exploring the opportunities and challenges of OpenEHR. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Rachel Dunscombe, CIO of Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, Mike Jones, Research Director at Gartner Inc. Tomaž Gornik, CEO of Marand, Vladimir Makarov, Deputy CIO of Moscow City, Andy Blofield, CIO of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust and other speakers passionate about the use of IT to improve the current state of healthcare around the world will present their experience and vision for OpenEHR. The main goal of OpenEHR is ensuring universal interoperability among all forms of electronic health data, with a focus on electronic health records (EHR) and related systems.
Gartner stated in its recommendation that truly effective and sustainable open architectures will need a capacity for vendor-neutral data persistence, such as utilizing a common scheme or set of archetypes and rules for managing structured and unstructured data. At the event, Mike Jones from Gartner Group will discuss how healthcare can innovate and integrate using digital ecosystems.
Over the past years, OpenEHR solutions with a multivendor environment built on an open and agile architecture proved to be a successful approach at managing electronic healthcare record at any scale. There are number of cases validating the vendor-neutral data concept.
Vladimir Makarov from Moscow Health Authority will present a city-wide EHR that was launched in Moscow outpatient clinics in 2011, and transformed care delivery for 12 million citizens. Participants of the OpenEHR event in Manchester will also have an opportunity to hear about an open standard approach to an integrated digital care record in Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which will be presented by its CIO Andy Blofield. Rachel Dunscombe from Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust will talk about the BI-Modal IT in practice and building an ecosystem of apps, while Jon Reed from Great Ormond Street Hospital will discuss a federated approach to collecting clinical data for the 100,000 Genomes Project.
Keynote speaking sessions and a panel discussion will provide an introduction to OpenEHR for novices, along with guests talking about their experiences with the Think!EHR Platform, its implementation, scale of opportunity, and vision for its capabilities to facilitate interoperability in health IT.
Afternoon sessions include “openEHR platforms, tools and applications” by Marand as well as Clinical Modelling” by dr. Ian Mcnicoll, co-chair of openEHR Foundation and “Clinician Engagement and Archetype Governance: Norwegian experience” by Silje Ljosland Bakke, Nasjonal IKT, Norway.
The event will also include workshops for developers, clinical informaticians and software designers from guest experts from the UK, Slovenia and Russia on OpenEHR implementation.
