In 2011, the Brazilian Ministry of Health issued an Ordinance which regulates the use of standards for interoperability and health information for health information systems within the Health System, the Municipal levels, District, State and Federal, and private systems and the private health care sector.
Section 4.1 stipulates openEHR for definition of EHR clinical content:
Para a definição do Registro Eletrônico em Saúde (RES) será utilizado o modelo de referência OpenEHR, disponível em http:// www. openehr. org / home. html.
As part of the process of building openEHR capability in Brazil, last week Ocean's Dr Heather Leslie participated in a 2 day workshop in Brasilia, focussed on planning for the new National Centre for Terminology in Brazil. In attendance were key leaders in the Ministry of Health and broader Brazilian eHealth community. Heather presented on clinical knowledge governance using Ocean's Clinical Knowledge Manager for information models and terminology subsets.
In addition, Heather provided 2 days of training at the request of the national eHealth program on use of CKM and archetype/template development.
More Brazil training is planned in the next few weeks on the Ocean Terminology Server which integrates directly with CKM to ensure consistent terminology governance alongside the archetypes and templates.
